To your left you have “La Gran Via,” a huge shopping mall in San Salvador which has every brand store and restaurant found in the U.S. “La Gran Via” is the false image of development in the country. While it is a tourist area, the revenue made there stays within the same circle of people that can even afford to shop there. It perpetuates the capitalist cycle. To your right you have an unpaved road in Chalatenango. These roads can be seen everywhere in the country. To the right and left of those roads are old shanty homes, where the poorest people live…and just an hour and a half from this place is this fancy, luxurious, shopping center. Talk about the accumulation of capital and the great inequality it creates!!!
