We spent 3 days in beautiful Montezuma located in the Nicoya Peninsula. You take a ferry from Puntarenas, which is an hour and a half away from San Jose, the ferry ride is about an hour and drops you off at Paquera. From Paquera the car drive is 45 minutes to Montezuma. Sounds like a complete mission to get there right? But it is all completely worth it!Montezuma is tiny. It has 3 main paved roads shaped in the form of an “I”. It’s so tiny that faces become familiar. The beaches are beautiful!Blue/aqua water! With plenty of shade from the palm trees. There is also a waterfall you can hike to which was quite a site to see.
Montezuma, just like Puerto Viejo, had that beach town vibe to it but it was definetly a lot more packed with tourists. We met a traveler named Jack from Canada who has been traveling in CR for 2 months but had gone back to Montezuma 4 times because he loves it so much!As he put it “I go to the beach, I go to the waterfall, take a nap, maybe a bonfire a night, it’s a simple life.” A simple life indeed….
